You do me proud

Posted by Kim on March 1, 2015, 1:51pm

I am so fiercely proud of this community. A week ago I spoke about the importance of keeping our tradition of welcoming new players strong. Since then, you have quadrupled the amount of welcoming that's happening, and filled the comment section and my inbox with heart warming stories of your own arrivals.

Last night, just after midnight, the first-ever batch of Celtic Friendship Knot accolades were awarded to members who made an effort to welcome new members in February. Consider them my heartfelt thank you for going out of your way to make sure every newbie feels welcome, safe, and has their questions answered.

In just over a week you have quadrupled the amount of welcoming that's happening. I look forward to seeing what you'll do this month!

In February, there were three Celtic Friendship Knot accolades that could be earned, getting more colorful the more welcoming a member did:

This group of colors won't be available again until June, but fear not -- there's a whole new batch of Celtic Frienship Knot accolades you can be awarded this month! The more members you welcome, encourage and assist in a timely fashion, the more colorful and intricate your accolade can be.

In related news, I'm tinkering with the layout of the Community page over the next few weeks. You'll already see some differences today, including a count of how many recent members are still awaiting a personal welcome from you. <3

Oh whoops, I thought Caco was talking about the chat online counter!

@Cacophony - Good question! Since there's absolutely no way of knowing who specifically is online and who isn't, the total count of online members is, indeed, a total, including members who don't show when they're personally online or not on their profiles. If you go idle for more than a few minutes, you will no longer be counted as an active user, even if you've left an RPR page or the chat open. So only people who are currently clicking around are included in that number.

For the count of who is in the official OOC chat, it's much more complex. The count can be different for different people, as some people will have it set so that everyone can see them counted as being in chat, some will have it set so that only their RPR friends can see them counted as in the chat, and others will have it set so that no one can see it.

The community page counts the online chat counter the exact same way as the in-chat counter. ;) No worries!

Love those changes! I do wonder: does it count people who have their online status hidden? I suppose it wouldn't out them, but I'm curious.
Also, does it still count you online if you've been idle for a while? I often find myself running after looking at my inbox and leaving RPR open.

YAY! I'm so excited to catch ehm all. XD Thanks for feeding my ridiculous accolade addiction!

@Dark137-SDN:
I saw a newbie who just joined yesterday cheerfully join in welcoming new members! There's no restriction on when you can do it. ;) If you struggle figuring out ways to welcome someone, Kim gave some wonderful ideas in the previous news post. Check out the comments!
