I should probably ask on the riddler forum, but just incase someone here knows, how does one go about finding a guardian? Do I just wander the site?

Yup! They're hidden in different places. Try looking at some of the examples in the riddle topic (marked as "found here") and look for links that seem out of place.

Sometimes they're hidden even more trickily, so keep your eyes peeled for anything unusual while you're browsing.
