I don't want to jinx it, but I've a horrible feeling that one of the big monsters is gonna attack the rocket and cause hundreds of damage.

Aha! I think I've got it. In Star Wars Infinities: A New Hope, a) Luke fails to blow up the Death Star, and b) Grand Moff Tarkin is promoted to admiral, and c) Emperor Palpatine is killed when the Death Star (sort of) crashes into Coruscant.
