Cchaaneh (played by Malachite)

Prompt #1: Does your character have a type of tic, or bad habit?

Not a bad habit exactly, more of a bad mindset that they're trying to correct. Despite the fact that Cchaaneh has dedicated their life to a crusade against their people's deeply-ingrained xenophobia, they still struggle with their own cultural conditioning. More often than they like, they find themselves thinking of those around them of different species as lesser beings or potential food. Cchaaneh will occasionally dehumanize (for lack of a better word) their alien peers, or catch their mouth watering as they observe someone, or treat others with more aggression and disdain than is socially acceptable outside of varsit culture. All of this they are actively trying to stop doing, but undoing a lifetime of indoctrination is a slow and difficult process.

Prompt #3: What would it take to push your character over the edge, temper wise? How bad do they blow when they've reached their limit?

Cchaaneh hates being told what they can and can't do, especially if it's because of their caste rather than a reason they view as more legitimate. All their life they've been talked down to and held back because of a simple accident of their birth, and it is now one of their biggest anger buttons, so to speak. When their temper does boil over, it's often explosive. Varsit in general are not known for their patience, and Cchaaneh is no exception. They'll roar, raise their voice, and in extreme cases may even attempt to physically intimidate the offender into giving them what they want...but if the offender is some sort of official, such as a representative of the Imperium or some other government, Cchaaneh exercises all the willpower they can muster not to explode. Especially if it's an Imperium official they're angry with, letting go of their temper may well spell their own execution. In cases like these, Cchaaneh will make their frustration known in more subtle ways. They will still be blunt and firm, and display no deference towards the offender, but they will not get loud or physical.

Prompt #4: What is an unusual social practice in your character's world? Whatever you can think of. (Examples: Humans wear make-up, eat dinner communally, hug, etc. All things that might be seen as bizarre through an other-worlder's eyes.)

In varsit culture, child-rearing partnerships are considered totally separate from romantic ones. Due to the level of trust and commitment needed for a pair to decide to do something as risky as having children, familial partnerships are often initiated between close friends or even romantic partners, but even if the romantic relationship ends, the parents will stay together to raise their child or children and live under one roof. Raising a child is viewed by the varsit as a duty to the state and to the survival of the species, rather than as an expression of tremendous love as it is viewed in human cultures. That isn't to say that varsit don't experience familial bonding, of course, but as with all things love-related, it expresses itself very differently than it does in humans. The birth of a varsit is an expression of defiance against a universe arrayed against the continued existence of their species, and the union of parents is a bond formed by that mutual defiance of death. We are here, it says, we will stay here, and we will continue to multiply despite all the odds. Or at least, so says the Imperium.

Prompt #5: What does your character use as currency? Is it different in their world? (This can include things like babysitting for a casserole. Any service in exchange for something else counts!)

I don't actually have an answer for this one! This question made me realize that, except in very broad strokes like working out the caste system, I haven't actually touched the varsit economy at all, probably because it just doesn't come up in the story I'm writing with them. Adding that to my to-do list for sure!

Prompt #7: What do they do for a living? Do they enjoy it, or are they just doing it because they have to?

As mentioned above, Cchaaneh is essentially on a crusade against xenophobia. More specifically, they're the varsit equivalent of a graduate student majoring in xenoanthropology, and they travel the galaxy doing field research for their thesis on the interactions between alien cultures in multi-species environments. Their hope is to disprove, or at least start to put cracks in, what they see as one of the great lies upon which modern varsit culture is built: that aliens are lesser beings whose only place in varsit society is in shackles or on a dinner plate, and—this is the part their thesis focuses on—that prolonged exposure to the corrupting influence of alien ways will rob a varsit of their very nature as a varsit, a kind of spiritual or cultural death referred to in their Low Tongue as hrefné shiih varsit (a phrase that is hard to translate, as there is, thankfully, no human equivalent, at least not that I know of). As for where they get their money, their research is funded in extreme secret by certain rebel factions within varsit society and by a small handful of alien organizations. Cchaaneh enjoys their work a great deal, and views it as their great cause in life, though it may very well result in the premature end of their life, as the Imperium government wants them silenced by any means necessary. This is part of why Cchaaneh has spent so long in the field outside Imperium borders...

Prompt #8: What's a little fear that your character has?

Originally I was going to write about a larger fear that Cchaaneh has suppressed with mixed success, but then I decided to stick with the spirit of the prompt. Some among the varsit have psychic abilities. Cchaaneh fears these people, and with good reason considering their chosen path in life. But even more than that, there is a myth among the varsit of a reincarnating individual of the red caste with psychic powers far stronger than even the strongest recorded psychic in the varsit's long history. This mythical figure is known as the Witch-Child, and there are various stories about how they came to be and what their motivations are, but one theme is common to every tale: the Witch-Child's appearance is tied to great tragedy, and one day they will be involved in the downfall of the varsit people. Now, despite all of Cchaaneh's grievances with their own people, they believe that the varsit could become a great civilization if only they shed the traditions, such as xenophobia and maybe even the caste system, that are holding them back. In this way Cchaaneh considers themself something of a patriot. The Imperium has tried to silence the Witch-Child myths, but they always resurface, and every so often there are alleged sightings of the Witch-Child. So Cchaaneh fears this mythical figure, though they would never admit to being superstitious.

Prompt #9: Your character has to form a temporary alliance with a stranger, how do they react?

Thanks to their precarious position, Cchaaneh does not trust easily. If forced to temporarily work together with a stranger, they would remain very tight-lipped about their research and identity. Should they suspect that the stranger knows who they are, they would distance themself from the other person as much as possible until they no longer had to work together, at which point they would try and figure out how much the person knows and deal with them as appropriate in order to protect themself. Cchaaneh is not above taking a life if necessary to preserve their own, but this would be a last resort. If on the other hand they are confident that the other person knows little or nothing about Cchaaneh's identity, they would endeavor to keep things that way for the duration of the partnership. And on the off-chance their new partner turned out to be on their side of the cause, well, they'd try and make the partnership a more permanent one, whether that meant recruiting the person as a sponsor or a protector.

Prompt #10: How does your character feel about kids?

In perhaps a very clichéd and human way, Cchaaneh believes that children are the future. They believe strongly in the power of new generations to enact social change. However, don't mistake this for a desire for children of their own. Cchaaneh knows that their life, which is essentially a life on the run with added note-taking, is not suitable for child-rearing, and introducing a partner and child into the mix would only make them more vulnerable to the Imperium's efforts against them, not to mention that the very process of having children carries a high mortality rate for varsit. They've thought this over and decided against ever having kids.

Prompt #11: How do they deal with physical affection? (I.e. hugging)

First, an explanation. Varsit do not express affection the way humans do. In fact, varsit don't even experience affection in the same way that humans do. Without getting into the nitty gritty of it all, gestures like hugging and such don't exist in their culture, and the gestures that do are mostly reserved for romantic partners. Varsit as a general rule aren't very touchy-feely. That said, Cchaaneh is even less fond of being touched than most. I won't go so far as to call them touch-averse, but Cchaaneh has lived a rough life devoid of both varsit-type and human-type affection and is not used to physical contact outside of a fight. Adding onto that, they have decent cause to be a little paranoid about people trying to touch them—who knows whether a touch might be concealing a weapon intended to end their life?

Prompt #12: How do they feel about lying?

Cchaaneh has devoted their life to disproving one of the great lies baked into the very fabric of varsit culture. Those who spread and enforce these lies earn Cchaaneh's ire. However, they also recognize the necessity of lying for self-preservation when one leads a life as dangerous as theirs, so they've become comfortable with the act of lying. They still don't like it, and view it as a cowardly and sometimes malicious act, but it's kept them alive, so they keep doing it.
Omnic (played by Rook)

These were a lot of fun, can't wait to do more!

Prompt #1

Does your character have a type of tic, or bad habit?

Oddly enough, Quinne doesn't! He does have a habit of snapping an elastic band when he's in a bad mood or feeling agitated, but I wouldn't call it a bad habit since it's meant to be a gesture for calming himself down.

Prompt #2

How does your character handle a relationship, what do they want in a partner?

He'd handle it well, I think. Given his history and the result of it for when it comes to his moods, he'd prefer someone a bit patient and understanding even if he's not against honesty in regards to when he's being a little too much. A generally good-natured person with a good sense of humor would generally be his preference, even if he finds amusement in sassy/sarcastic traits.

Prompt #3

What would it take to push your character over the edge, temper wise? How bad do they blow when they've reached their limit?

Continously messing with people he trusts or attempting to provoke him to no end. Quinne can be a violent person when he's reached his limit and given his capabilities (as well as being an android), it's generally a dangerous thing when that happens. Quinne is ridiculously protective of those close and perhaps a little too proud, so either is a good way to really set him off.

Prompt #4

What is an unusual social practice in your character's world? Whatever you can think of. (Examples: Humans wear make-up, eat dinner communally, hug, etc. All things that might be seen as bizarre through an other-worlder's eyes.)

I don't think there really is, any, as far as I've seen in RPs!

Prompt #5

What does your character use as currency? Is it different in their world? (This can include things like babysitting for a casserole. Any service in exchange for something else counts!)

Just money usually, though it's just called 'creds' in the continuity.

Prompt #6

What is your character's proudest moment, what was their saddest?

Their proudest moment was putting an end to a part of a group through killing off their leader, even if that group has their own divisions. Still, it offered a sense of freedom, albeit temporarily, for those affected by that division.

His saddest, though, was ending one of his oldest friendships for good because of feeling they cared the same about him as he did them only to be immediately replaced by someone else.

Prompt #7

What do they do for a living? Do they enjoy it, or are they just doing it because they have to?

He's the Captain of a spaceship crew who generally just travels about with and probably does the odd job or two, and he loves it immensely.

Prompt #8

What's a little fear that your character has?

Losing more friends, and generally being alone again. It's something he worries about constantly, especially with the group of friends he's gotten close to.

Prompt #9

Your character has to form a temporary alliance with a stranger, how do they react?

He'd be suspicious and not at all welcoming towards them, it'd be a begrudging acceptance until that alliance is over with.

Prompt #10

How does your character feel about kids?

Seeing as he can't actually have kids on his own, he doesn't really think about it much. He'd be fond of kids from people he's close to, however.

Prompt #11

How do they deal with physical affection? (I.e. hugging)

It depends on who it's from. If it's someone he's only met once or twice, he'd be very against returning the gesture or even accepting it. For those he does care about, Quinne is completely fine with it and will be more than happy to offer the same.

Prompt #12

How do they feel about lying?

While Quinne prefers honesty about most things, he doesn't care if the lie is something small just to avoid upsetting someone too much.

Prompt #13

Your character meets a ghost. What's their reaction?

He'd be intrigued, mostly, but also put off. As far as he's concerned, ghosts don't exist and he'd probably try to figure out more about it.
Jaheira (played by bitteryeen)

Thank you for these fun, thought-provoking questions!

Prompt #1
Does your character have a type of tic, or bad habit? Not really, although she does bite her nails sometimes when nervous. She's also a bit of an alcoholic.

Prompt #2
How does your character handle a relationship, what do they want in a partner? Until very recently, Jaheira was a bachelor who did not handle relationships well. She had a fear of commitment, and was a total player. But after catching feelings for one of her hookups, Jaheira is trying to change her ways.

Prompt #3
What would it take to push your character over the edge, temper wise? How bad do they blow when they've reached their limit? Jaheira is fun-loving and often the comedic relief in most RPs, but she has a notoriously bad temper. It doesn't take a lot to piss her off, and she won't hesitate to let you know she's upset. Especially if she feels betrayed or lied to. One time, she got banned from a bar for punching a dude after he hit on her girlfriend. Oops.

Prompt #4
What is an unusual social practice in your character's world? Whatever you can think of. Jaheira is from the Mobius Strip Galaxy. With so many planets and races, not much is actually seen as 'unusual.'

Prompt #5
What does your character use as currency? Is it different in their world? She uses the Mobius Standard Credit, or credit(s). One credit is roughly equivalent to $1 USD.

Prompt #6
What is your character's proudest moment, what was their saddest? Jaheira's saddest moment was undoubtedly her parents' murder. Her proudest was adopting her son, Number 002, a badgery-looking android kid.

Prompt #7
What do they do for a living? Do they enjoy it, or are they just doing it because they have to?
Jaheira is the captain and mechanic aboard the Defiance. She loves it, and wouldn't want to do anything else.

Prompt #8
What's a little fear that your character has? Little fear? None, really. But she has a big fear of losing her family to the same terrorist group that killed her parents.

Prompt #9
Your character has to form a temporary alliance with a stranger, how do they react? Jaheira is distrustful of strangers at first. If she is forming an alliance with them, it is likely because she doesn't have much choice.

Prompt #10
How does your character feel about kids? Indifferent toward most kids, but absolutely adores her own. She never expected to be a parent, because she can barely take care of herself.

Prompt #11
How do they deal with physical affection? (I.e. hugging) She used to hate it, but has since grown fond of physical affection thanks to a lovable best friend, Kaelee, and son. And now a girlfriend, too. It's almost overwhelming, in the best kind of way.

Prompt #12
How do they feel about lying? Detests it. Don't try it. Jaheira is nothing if not brutally honest, and she expects the same.

Prompt #13
Your character meets a ghost. What's their reaction? She's seen a lot scarier stuff than a ghost. The galaxy is big, wide, and terrifying.

[Prompt #14] Where was your character born?
Ashley Topic Starter

[Prompt #15] What does your character's footsteps look like? How do they walk?
Hey, welcome back! ~It's been a while~

Prompt
15: What do your character's footsteps look like? How do they walk?
Datoya is purposeful. She's an itinerant healer always moving from town to town, and she knows what she wants out of life (so she thinks) and how to objectively judge the world around her (or just judge the world.) She can be quiet; she forages most of her supplementary herbs and fungi to augment her supernatural abilities. I'm still fleshing her out, but if anyone needs a prudent and judgy healer mom, she can be found here.

Azerius is a minotaur running a tavern. He therefore is literally much like a bull in a china shop, but since it's his tavern, he knows what's breakable where, and therefore he has a lot more grace inside his domain than without it. When he wants to charge, you'll know it; even his lightest mincing steps are landing on hooves that make noise. His running positively shakes the ground. Azerius is technically an NPC for a D&D/adventure/secretly actually freeform Stardew Valley/Harvest Moon/Animal Crossing game called the Cindergrove, but he's a big friendly boy and I'd love to flesh him out more via 1x1's as well if anyone is curious. He's at the top of this NPC Sheet for basic personality traits.

Prompt
15: Where was your character born?
Datoya was born in a small village within the lordhold borders of Andesatra; however, it was destroyed in the warring going on between Andesatra and a neighbouring warlordhold. She hasn't been there since she left as a teen.

Azerius was born and bred in Cindergrove, has lived their all his life. His parents and most of his family have moved on to greener pastures, but Azerius was seized by the lore that his great grandfather was a warrior who died saving hundreds of Cindergrovians from the dragon that attacked the town. He wants to rebuild Cindergrove to honour that memory.
