Today was the first day all the new students would be joining the Institute, some were older as they could not have been contacted before then, and some had joined on time at 13 or 14.
They were on a boat holding 34 new students, others were on different boats. They were heading for the large island that the Institute was on, and they were instructed to stay away from the edge of the boat. They didn't want anyone falling in, especially not in these waters.
The ocean was a murky dark blue, almost black. The waves were choppy today, and it made the boat ride rather bumpy. They would arrive soon, and the young students were told that they would be picked up by the docks and brought to the school.
Some of the students were excited for the new opportunity, others not so much. But one way or the other, everyone in the boat had to spend the rest of their teen years in the institute, or so they thought.

Hana sighed as the boat rocked on through the ocean. She looked on to the rest of the waters as they drew closer. She made sure to stay away from the edge. The ocean looked odd to her.

Although it would still take some time to adjust. She was just unsure of how this school would be. She takes the time in the boat before it arrives at the docks to check if she has everything. Clothes, essentials, and other things she may need. Hana waited patiently to arrive at the docks. Never a fan of waiting, but did so anyway.

Jason, or Jas, hadn't much of a choice in coming to this school. With what little family he had left they decided it would've been best for him, but of course it didn't change his opinions on the matter.

Jas felt nervous being in such a place with unfamiliar faces. He had moved into a corner, trying to just ignore everything until they arrived. He had a small sketchbook in his hands as he tried to draw on the shaking boat, sitting down with his knees tucked in to steady his hand as he drew. He felt isolated, scared, and overall confused. Jas only hoped things would get better from here as he drew in silence.

Cas looked around at the residents of the boat. Everyone seemed absolutely miserable, and why shouldn't they? Most people didn't even want to be here. Why should we give up our powers for the powerless? Cas thought for a moment, and decided to make a move.

She cast a small illusion on herself. Everyone now saw her wearing a pirate hat, that seemed to be made of the same material as her waistcoat. With that, she made her way to the front of the boat, and addressed every passenger.

"Dearies, why so drab? We have a whole new life ahead of us! A life to reveal our true selves to our companions! Perk up, will ya?"

Corrine was standing near the centre of the boat, looking down at her feet. Her father had decided that she would attend this school after she proved her powers stronger then his.

She noticed a boy sitting alone off from the group, and she studied him for a moment. He appeared to be attempting to write, or draw. He looked nervous, like everyone else here.

She suddenly looked up as a... pirate? Addressed the crowd. She raised a slender white eyebrow in both concern and confusion.

"what's going on up there?" Cas heard someone heading for the captains room, presumably the captain.
Alexis was sitting against the wall slightly hunched over. There was absolutely nothing to do; nobody she knew was here and she couldn't use her phone, either.
Aviva was observing the crowd of new students, most likely judging how they looked.

Corrine looked away from the pirate, her dark blue eyes scanning the water. Her white hair fell in soft waves against her back, and her exposed equally white skin shone slightly in the sun. If it weren’t for her blue eyes she could be considered albino.

She was wearing her usual clothes, a pair of black skinny jeans and her favourite deep burgundy sweatshirt. Her choice of footwear was her well worn black and white converse.

Jas had looked up to see the pirate, a small smile tugging at his lips as they spoke. He began drawing the pirate with what he could see from his corner. He continued to draw until he heard another voice from where he assumed the captain's room was.

He stopped looking at the pirate then let the neutral expression settle back on his face as he threw his hood over his silvery-white hair, with a few strands still sticking out as he resumed the drawing he had started before the pirate had spoken. It was a sketch of a fox perched on a tree stump in a moonlit forest. If it wasn't for the crowd he might have been tempted to pull out his small ocarina he had gotten as a child and start playing. His timidity quickly rushed the idea of playing a song in front of people out of his head.

Alexis glanced over at Jas. *I could draw,* she thought, but wasn't very thrilled with the idea. She decided to do it anyway, and took out a black hard cover sketch book, and started scanning the faces in the crowd for one that would make a good drawing.

Corrine looked back from the water to the crowd of students, her eyes jumping from one to the next. She noticed another student had pulled out a sketchbook and she smiled slightly to herself. She wasn’t artistic like most people, she was more into problem solving and analytical teaching styles. It’s not like she never tried sketching, she just never had the talent for it.

Hana had only glanced over for a moment, not for very long before swinging back to the ocean. She was interested in the ocean more than that of the pirate. She was very curious about each student though. They were all different, yet the same in a way. She then noticed three others pulling out their sketchbook. She would've taken hers out, but now didn't seem like a good time to her. She sighed, looking out to the rest of the group.

Dustin was wearing a heavy black coat, although it wasn't raining, just slightly chilly. He looked over the sea of faces, his own having a look of disappointment. His powers revolved around animals, but he couldn't bring any of his pets. They were all at home with his Mom, who just *had* to send him to this dump.
Dustin sighed, thinking back when he could go to public school. Here his powers won't be impressive or special, just normal like everyone else. He tugged his coat up a little more, and leaned against the wall of the boat.

Jas looked over his sketch with a soft smile. There was something about drawing that took away his anxiety, bit to mention the fears he had of just about everything that could go wrong. He looked up once more to see others with notebooks of their own, drawing.

He looked back down at his own drawing before tearing it out and folding it into an airplane. He waited for a moment between the boat's rocking to throw it towards Corrine, whom he'd caught glancing at him earlier.

Cas looked down. It seemed her little performance attracted some attention. Though there was no such thing as bad attention, she killed the illusion, her hat disappearing into the wind.

She decided she would wait until she got to the island before the real show started. Cas walked over back to her seat, sat down and kicked her feet up. Soon, those here would see her true beauty.

Amber was surveying the crowd of faces, but not really paying a lot of attention to them. She was thinking about the place she'd be spending years of her life at. Her powers weren't all that impressive, and she worried that she wouldn't compare to the other students.
What if she was unpopular, or failed her classes?

(Can we get to the island already? I'm not sure if anyone else's character is extroverted enough to do anything.)

Corrine felt a little prick on her arm and looked down, seeing the little paper airplane fall slowly to the ground. Her face furrowed in confusion, and she leaned down to pick it up.
She carefully unfolded it, studying what was on the page.

The boat approached the island, and passengers noticed that the island seemed to just...Appear there, even though it should have been visible from farther away. The boat reached the docks and stopped, you couldn't see very much of the island as it had a thick, gloomy layer of mist hanging over it. Movement could be seen through the dense fog. Four large horses appeared, pulling a vehicle of some sort that looked like something you'd see at a farm fest, a hay ride without the hay. A dark figure was leading the horses, and he looked up at the students.
"Everyone off the boat, and on the cart. Thing." The captain said, and all the students started to walk off of the boat and on to the dock.

The paper airplane that hit Corrine had a small, but very detailed drawing of a fox and a bird in a forest, with the fox looking from the ground to the bird who was perched atop a tree branch. Jas was proud of the drawing, but was too shy to actually show someone, hence the paper airplane.

Jas stood upon hearing the order to leave the boat, closing his notebook and slipping it into the pocket of his hoodie. He begrudgingly moved forward and off the boat with the other students, stepping on the dock with a sigh of relief at feeling solid ground underneath his legs. Jas got up onto the cart with relative ease, and sat down towards one of the corners, just as he had done on the boat ride. The fog didn't help his nerves or his fears of what this new place would be like, all he did know is that this island was his home now, at least for the time being.
