John's characters are remarkably detailed, and even the fantastic ones FEEL like they're picked straight from the annals of history. Not only is he a great writer, but he's also a great guy. They have an incredible nose for what makes a good story, being able to fluidly switch roles between unbearably cold villains and really deep, relatable protagonists with ease.
