Congratulations Curiosity!

Congratulations Curiosity. Last night, you made history by successfully completing the most complicated unmanned landing procedure ever attempted in this solar system by far.

Once you hit the atmosphere of Mars, Earth was so far away that it would have taken too long to radio home for help. You had to execute the entire landing procedure by yourself, hundreds of actions with zero margin for error, adjusting for changing and unpredictable atmospheric conditions while plunging toward the surface of an alien world at 13,000 miles per hour.

And when those seven minutes of terror were over, you snapped a photo of your own shadow on the surface of Mars to prove that you had dared mighty things and triumphed.

Seriously: you're one impressive giant roving robot.

May your two year mission to determine whether life ever existed on Mars - and how humans might best live there in the future - go just as smoothly as your remarkable landing last night. You are sure to inspire generations of scientists, engineers, writers and imagineers back here on Earth.

So, who's up for some sci-fi themed RP?

I also watched the live NASA stream and it was really something to see the team celebrating. They were throwing hugs and high-fives around, some were absolutely astounded, and I even saw a woman crying she was so happy. They had every reason to, this is one Hell of an achievement!

The best of luck to this badass robot and its human team back home on our little blue marble. You guys rock!
