Epic Week 2014 & 2015 - Plot Review

Posted by Kim on April 15, 2020, 9:00am

6 years ago, the RPR started celebrating its birthday parties by going on massive adventures together - not as characters, but as players. It was our chance to be the heroes of the story ourselves!

That first adventure in 2014 saw the discovery of two mysterious portals, which could only be opened by solving the riddles of each symbol around their edges.

Unfortunately, we forgot to close them behind us after that first adventure, which meant that the smell of our birthday cake in 2015 attracted some uninvited guests...

But once we'd closed the two portals, it turned out... the goblins had been constructing a third portal as a backup! And they used it to bring in some heavy-hitting help... a Many Headed Cyborg Dragon!

We had to fight out way through the goblins AND the dragon to close the final portal, but as we fought, something unexpected happened.

The people of the RPR took note that the Many Headed Cyborg Dragon had been brought through the portal in chains, and they presented me with a petition: That dragon is being forced to fight us, and we'd like a promise that it will be rehabilitated and released once we've defeated the goblins. And so... we did.

Upon its defeat, the Many Headed Cyborg Dragon was carted off the battlefield and brought to a dragon ranch for medical care. Its progress was originally slow, as one of the heads kept chewing off its bandages and any casts its caretakers tried to apply. But after a dragon-sized "cone of shame" was manufactured, it recovered quickly!

Those of you that were there -- what were your favorite stories from the 2014 and 2015 Epic Week adventures? :)

Hahah, oh man. I have been an... you might say avid participant in Epic Week since they began being epic! It is honestly one of the times of year that I look forward to the most, even over most actual calendar holidays. The camaraderie of a huge portion of the site getting together, putting our heads together on devious puzzles, co-ordinating timed battle strikes, sending out potions and other helpful items when other folks need 'em the most... It's really something awesome.

2014 was the introduction of the portals and riddles, and as someone who's always enjoyed games of trivia, I really got pulled into the discussion as everyone noodled their noggins together, trying to find the clues and hints and make sense of them. Back then, we also had to find the Guardians before we could even try to answer their riddles, and Kim had hidden the links to them in some very devilishly hard to spot places!
I believe I might've broken the first seal - the Unicorn Seal, if I recall correctly? I remember the excitement in narrowing down what the answers all could've been, and the feeling of breathless joy as the seal flooded into colour.
I also made some cookies that year to celebrate, which were all the more delicious for the site's triumph. :D

I arrived late to the party in 2015, missing the first few days and a good portion of the riddling, alas. But that was the year that the battling mechanic was introduced, and our good friend Doubutt first started its forays in Forohfor Castle! The air of the Forum Forest was filled with the sound of whistling axes, as we all tried to get familiar with the newfound weaponry. A lot of brave trees were lost that year, due to our incredible whiffs. :D
The MHCD was definitely a fan-favourite feature of that year, however, and thankfully it wouldn't be the last time we saw she/she/he/it.

It's so cool seeing the amounts of points and stuff people have in their accolades. :D I don't remember whose it was, but one of the first birthday cake badges I hovered over on a profile had so many numbers on it, for a second I thought there was a bug! Then, of course, I had to do my homework on Epic Week... I think I was offline for almost the entire time of the last one. Whoops. :P

This should be super cool. I'm really anticipating the fun... :3

I joined RPR about the time Epic 2018 was kicking off and was a bit confused about what all was going on so was like that Homer Simpson meme of him backing away and disappearing in the hedge.

It took me until June to climb back out of the hedge. In 2029 I stood to the side and watched the fun. Maybe 2020 I'll get involved?

Thanks for the history of Epic Week! :)

This is so cool! I joined in June 2016 so I missed 2014/15 and 2016! I ended up missing 2017 as well, and my first epic week was 2018. I wish I could take a portal back in time to revisit past epic weeks!!!
