Since my mischievous characters end up in combat scenes from time to time, I'm used to searching Google for the effects of injuries. I was researching tools to help me write about them with greater accuracy and found this awesome article.
As stated under their "General Remarks", "There’s a lot of ‘relatively’ and ‘probably’ in this article because everyone reacts differently to injury," which especially counts when writing about someone who isn't quite human! But it covers all sorts of general symptoms in basic details, from diagrams describing the stages of blood loss (in percentage and liters, wowee!) to the effects of being in a leaky spaceship. It's clear and concise and for those of you who are squeamish, don't worry, there aren't any pictures.

That's why you make dem undead characters! You just need to recognize injuries only when a limb gets torn off.. or a ligament, or tendon.. and in some cases deep flesh cut.

This is helpful and should be used for people who are clueless on how injuries work.
You caught my attention with the burns and hostile environments area. Now maybe I can write decent backfiring side effects for my Phoenix characters.

...My internet history probably contains far too many psychology articles, disgusting disease references and biological warfare references to be nor- wait, writer-roleplay, makes sense now. I always was the one getting pulled up in my schooling years for being quite visceral 
What about a broken horn on a horned being? One with a bone core? How serious would that be? Would it bleed?

Like some deer antlers and some ram "crowns", they are designed to fall off so breaking isn't much of a hassle. They are crown back the next spring
But those with horns that are meant to stay there, broken horn doesn't grow back, may bleeed a little but rarily brings about anything worse. Even if the damage extends to base. Still, every now and then infection may spread from the broken horn to the.. horny one.
In most extreme cases, all ailments that broken horn may bring can be fixed by removing the entire horn!
