If you're new to forums, good news! You have a cozy afternoon/evening/whatever ahead of you. When you have time, get a drink and just give the boards a look-see to get a feel for what kind of topics people start, and spend some time in the Help section (you can find a handy link in the header!), too. Look at some profiles for users and characters. Forums are wonderful because you're allowed to take your sweet time with things and go at your own pace.
