Hello Auberon! Welcome to RP Repository! :)

I'm like, 'You're not new... You respond to most of my spambot reports, and one not-so-spambot report. Appreciate all you and the other mods do for Kim, the site, and for us! Thanks for your introduction and allowing us to get to know you better.

I was today years old when I discovered that my 'introduction' thread was highlighted at the bottom of my 'Account Info' page!
Welcome to RPR!
Thank you for sharing a bit of your journey and for everything you continue to give to the community. It is truly a pleasure to have you here.

Hello everyone!

It occurred to me recently that I never did post an actual introduction on the website, and even though I'm a moderator of a few years, a lot of people don't really know much about me. :)

My name is Auberon, and I'm a Twitch affiliate and freelance illustrator. I've been on the RPR since a few months after it was founded, and I've been RPing since before a lot of you were born. I started off with pencil and paper RP, drawing my character's face or full body and writing their dialogue. These "comics" had a following in my school, and we'd pass the sketchbooks around for people to read as we filled them up.

Eventually I transitioned to RPing with friends on AOL, then moved to AIM. I spent a good deal of time on Furcadia, so some of you probably know me from there as Alluvial (Alluvial Ink is my streamer/art name). I contributed to official graphics and led the volunteer art team for a while (I succeeded Kim when she left to create the RPR and pursue other projects!). I also did hundreds of custom avatars for private clients, and gosh, probably in the neighborhood of a thousand icons/portraits.

I ran a modern fantasy group for about eight years, which would peak at 200 or so characters online at any given time. It was very stressful, but rewarding at times. It was set in a fictional city in Louisiana named New Versailles. I still play AUs of some of the characters that came out of that world. (You may have seen me posting about Corbeau, who is one of my favorites.)

Over the past year and change, I've been working on my first novel of a planned series with a friend. It's dark faerie romance fantasy, set in the Arcadian Isles where fae courts vie for political power and control over territories. An Unseelie princess finds herself crossing paths with a mysterious stranger who wields the shadow magic of Obsidian Court gentry, yet seems to have ties to the mortal lands.

We're hoping to be fully in the beta reading stage by spring, and I'm very excited!

I've also done a bunch of assorted art for the RPR, including the Epic Week cake slices, the Epic Week comics (for the last few years), all of the Lemonade Stand treats (the hippocampi were by Ilmarinen), the Phoenix icons, and a few assorted icons from the Bake Sale. I absolutely love to help Kim out with graphics wherever I can.

Lastly, I live with several disabling conditions that I'm very open about. I've got Bipolar 1 Disorder, PTSD, ADHD, and two autoimmune diseases - Celiac and Sjogren's Syndrome. If you're curious about any of these, please feel free to ask. I love to educate people about them, since there are a lot of misconceptions, and Sjogren's especially isn't well known or understood.

If you ever need help, please feel free to reach out! I try super hard to reply to PMs in a timely manner as my health allows, although I've recently returned to college after a 16 year hiatus, so my availability may be a wee bit more spotty. But I promise I'm friendly and love to help out!

It's nice to meet you all. :)

Welcome to RPR :)

Thanks for the kind words of encouragement. Again, if anyone needs help or has questions for a mod, my PMs are always open. <3

(Though some folks seem to have not read my intro post, I do appreciate the re-welcoming, haha.)
Welcome to RPR :P

If you need help finding the forums or making a character we have a beloved team of people to help /very joking I hope that's clear.

Thanks for introducing yourself properly!

I will need updates on your novel. I will also shamelessly ask to beta read. Thank you. lol.

I was diagnosed with BP2 for the longest time. That... turned out to be wrong lmfao. Did you get diagnosed at a reasonable age? That was part of my problem. You can diagnose BP pretty early, but what I have, BPD, can get mistaken for a lot of things around the teenage years and I didn't get properly diagnosed until I was much older.

I did see somewhere that you were talking about going back to college! I was very excited for you and it's inspiring seeing people go back after it's been so long. It's never to late to do the things!
Welcome fully to the repository, Auberon! ^w^

For starters, I must say I really enjoy the art of al the treats and pheonixes that you've done. alongside the comics. I cannot wait too look out for the writing soon to be released! :3

I would also like to ask, if not a bother, what in general bipolarity is? I've heard a lot about the general disorder but haven't quite gotten to figuring it all out or at the very least researching it, and want to make sure I make no mistake on interpreting it as something else im the future ;v;

Otherwise, thank you for helping moderate the repository, and wish you the best! ^w^

I will definitely be posting about the book as we get closer to publishing. I'll for sure need ARC readers, at least! We do have an 18+ discord for announcements etc if you're interested. You can DM me for a link. :)

I actually wasn't diagnosed with bipolar disorder until my mid-20s. It was suspected for a long time, but I was Going Through Some Things, and the psychologists I was working with weren't comfortable diagnosing me with a mood disorder while I was also grieving. I ended up having a nervous breakdown, went on an SSRI, got SUPER manic, and ended up inpatient in an acute psych ward. It took me a very long time and a lot of medication trial and error, but at this point I'm fairly stable overall. I haven't been hospitalized in about nine years!

As for college, YES! Going back after 16 years is very intimidating, but there's an older student in my class who went back after 25, so I'm in good company. I'm very excited to be challenging myself, but I'm a bit nervous that my disabilities will hinder me. I'm thankfully only taking one class, so I hopefully won't get too overwhelmed!

I'm so glad you enjoy the art! It's definitely a labor of love for me. :D

Bipolar Disorder is a mood disorder characterized by mood episodes alternating between depression and mania. Depression's pretty straightforward, but mania I know is less understood. For me, it manifests with increased energy, insomnia, elevated mood, creativity, and impulsivity. It can be really enjoyable to a point, but also very destructive for myself and those around me. Some people with extreme mania may even experience delusions and psychosis (which I have in the past).

Mood episodes with bipolar last a few weeks or longer, which distinguishes it from other mental illnesses that may involve mood swings. Changes to mood are gradual and last for a substantial amount of time. For me, they typically last 2-3 months at a time, and when I'm less well medicated, I have what's called "rapid cycling bipolar disorder," which means that I have very little time between episodes with a baseline mood. I just swing from one extreme to the other.

There are three different types of bipolar disorder. Bipolar 1, which is what I have, is characterized by depressive episodes alternating with full-blown manic episodes. Bipolar 2 tends to lean more heavily into depression with "hypomanic" episodes that are less extreme than full mania and often don't last as long. The third kind is called "cyclothymia," which involves periods of hypomania alternating with depression that doesn't meet the criteria for a major depressive episode.

I got a bit rambly, but hopefully I answered some of your questions!
What a Slayer way to get the word out!

I look forward to reading your work. :-)

Thank you! I'll definitely be posting to the Art & Creativity forums when it's finally published someday. Fingers crossed it'll be by next year. We want to do some querying with agents before we decide on self-publishing.
