Which is generally space-themed Epic Weeks.
Imagine the fire whip is just a bunch of fire daggers haphazardly duct taped along the length of the whip.
Part of the issue with combining weapons is how variety would be managed. Like, there's 3 different types that are best for different enemies, and if you combine multiple types, which is the result? And rapiers give a slight dodge bonus, and Alien Honor Blades sometimes (when space is involved) have a slight change to do extra damage via insult to honor.
This year is a weird one that both is and is not space themed.

tbh when ive fought creatures ive tried all different types of weapons and rarely see any results. it always just says +1 for me. how am i to know whithout looking at a guide which weapon is best for which creature?

Usually they’re colour-coded, except for the shadows this year.

It will say "The monster shrugged off X damage" in the damage report if you're not using the right type. If you're using the right type, it will just take all the damage.

But you also need to know which weapon is which type. It's mostly intuitive, but not entirely.

on the issue of combining weapons I imagine you wouldn't be able to combine just any weapons together. My thought process would be there's be a couple of weapons on the crafting screen that uses other weapons and misc items are crafting ingredients. So they might visually look like combined weapons but in reality they'd be their own items, with a bit more power to them to reward the crafting, and maybe less max uses to balance them.
i for one am all for pure cosmetics. it doesnt have to make any kind of logical sense to me so long as it looks cool/unique/fun
