Well, I mean, even if you're not familiar with a particular genre or fandom or science-y topic in question, it's possible to help out with finding solutions! Or battling monsters, or finding Riddle Masters, etc.
I think we also need more people on Doubutt... and I'm leaving soon. 
Last year we had a couple of times where the solutions to really tough riddles were found by people who weren't fans of the fandoms of the particular riddles - persistance pays off, sometimes.
Those Riddle Masters are experts at hide-and-seek....

Just wanted to chime in and echo that out is 1000% okay to "feel like a newb" during EW! Last year was my first but it ended up being the most fun I've had on the internets in a good, long time. Made me look forward to it this year, especially for the riddle portion!
