Morgause (played by Raider-jack29)

"Thank you ladies, for now this is all I can ask of you under our current conditions. May our efforts be fruitful in these times of hardship."
She spoke as she began to light certain herbs a flame creating a calming smell in the room.
She slowly began to grind some herbs in a small bowl.

"Tomorrow, lady Morgana I'd like fur us to go on a ride so I may speak with you privately."
Amber (played by Mathgeek124)

Amber stood back, she was happy to be apart of this, but she was scared they would find something out. "Can I trust you with a huge secret that may be life or death for me, my ladies?" She glanced at them.
"Certainly if anything can be done to help, it shall be done" nodded Morgana

"As for you, lady Morgause you have but to say and we will ride out" nodded Morgana

((OOC: good night))
Amber (played by Mathgeek124)

(OOC: night!)

She put her head down and got on her knees, ready to beg if needed. "I am half witch." She peaked up to see their reactions.
Mordred (played by Guingamor)

Mordred listened intently to Lord Pentre's words, and to his conversation with Lady Morgause. On one hand, he couldn't see how he could get Nimueh out of this, as the evidence was so damning. On the other, she may already be gone, as she was only to poison the King and warn Merthyr that he must seek redemption in order to free the kingdom.

Despite his internal satisfaction at seeing Prince Merthyr's punishment, he realized that having to watch him would restrict his own movements significantly. He despised King Conrad, and yet he couldn't help feeling slight distaste at the punishment he had to deliver.

At Lord Pentre's word, however, he sought to Prince Merthyr immediately. Turning to Merthyr, maintaining a careful expression indicating that it was nothing personal, he brought the prince to the main square. He allowed Merthyr to strip himself, and took his clothes and armour. Though, with a poorly concealed frown, he left it to one of the guards who had accompanied him to deliver the lashes, preferring to keep an eye on it from an appropriate distance.

As Lord Pentre requested, Mordred delivered Merthyr's punishment. He brought him into his previous cell in the dungeons, locking it, and leaving two guards to watch him over the night.

Merthyr's belongings were surrendered to him, largely of much better quality than the belongings he had. And as he entered Merthyr's chambers, he found it much the same as he had left it. It was a prince's quarters, with the quality and cleanliness one would expect from such.
Morgana opened her eyes wide and weary at the confession

"Are you seeking a death sentence? Never speak of such words here at the castle, even the walls happen to have ears more often than not" hushed Morgana

"Come now, stand up, no need to kneel at my presence, I am no king" assured Morgana smiling warmly and taking her hand to help her up

"It is in your best interests and safety of all of us that you forget you even hold a darker side and conceal it best as you can" advised Morgana softly

She waved Amber to follow and came outside to stand dutifully for the announcements and sentencings.

"Come our presence is, as usual, required" sighed Morgana reluctantly going outside to face the crowds as the so called justice was delivered day in, day out.

As she stood upright in the royal stand, Conrad and Merthyr were noticeably absent, leaving her and her maid as the centre of attention along with lord Pentre

Merthyr knew better than to contest the sentencing, well aware anything the lord Pentre or Mordred could come up with was better than death itself, he had to make the most of the unfortunate situation. He had to take it in good spirits if he were to attain redemption later on and a certain degree of normality.

Upon reaching the main square Merthyr came over to the royal stand, to the lady Morgana's presence, lowering a knee to the ground to deliver a formal apology, the least he could do towards his fiancee for the shame and dishonour he had incurred that would inevitably tarnish her.

"My fairest lady, I am most unworthy of thy hand at present though thou remainst the most fairest damsel in the realm. Into thy hands I hereby entrust the royal seal along with all the birthrights and privileges of the crown, may thee use it wisely for the benefit of the kingdom, princess Morgana Pentre" commented Merthyr taking out the noticeable chunky ring and handing it to her.

Once she had taken the ring, Merthyr calmly and composedly walked up the scaffolding and stood still, hand resting on the hilt of his sword as he listened to the lord Pentre read aloud the charges and the prescribed sentencing. After the high lord had finished reading the decree, he waited for the sober drums to resound marking the start of the punishment. Merthyr removed his clothes keeping nothing but his braies and surrendered his attire as well as his armour without showing the least defiance.

He walked bare feet over to the main wooden pole and rested his head against it, whilst his wrists were cuffed for better support, soon after a shower lashes left him in agony, given the guard's inexperience. The expert hands of the royal executioner would have better delivered the same blows without half as much damage. By the end of the counting Merthyr had already collapsed through pain and weakness, barely aware or awake. He did his best to control his trembling limbs and supported himself on the guards who dragged him away to his appointed cell, dropping him without qualms on the cold stone floor, then onwards his treatment being no different to any other guilty commoner.

Once Mordred had left, Merthyr stood still, resting and wincing in pain through gritted teeth. He lacked any strength to move so he remained still with his cheek resting on the cold stone looking bewildered as the two guards simply collapsed into a deep sleep without apparent reason. He stared hard into the darkened dungeons, forcing his eyes open to find Nimueh calmly standing and staring down at him.

"How the mighty have fallen, uh, Merthyr Tydfil? So many crowns and kingdoms rise and fall under my watchful eyes and yet magic remains, strong, steady and cold as stone. Despite the passing of time, I remain ageless, a silent witness that at times foretells good fortunes and at other times terrible woes yet always inevitably watches such events come to pass. At times I am desperately sought as a blessing, at times utterly despised as a curse. You will do well to remember, Merthyr, that magic always has an even price to be paid" trailed off Nimueh

"I have given you the chance to make amends for your father's wrongdoings as you demanded off me, young prince. I have granted your wish. So... here it is..." trailed off Nimueh raising her palm to summon the goblet

Nimuehschalice.jpg

"Behold, brave knight of the Old Code, the cup of Retribution. This goblet shall be filled by you, and you alone, through your blood, sweat and tears, your privations and sacrifices, above all your good deeds and virtues, your selflessness, your restrain and self denial among others including the courage you lacked during the unjust and cruel execution of so many magic wielders where you simply stood by and silently watched.

Take heed, noble prince, for every wrongdoing that follows from your father's decrees or those who wield his power, the cup shall empty some, for every trial you endure it shall fill up again in equal measure. See to it that it is brimming and when it holds overflowing for three dawns and three sunsets, at the midnight, the curse against your kingdom shall be lifted and you shall rise again, a fairer prince and worthier knight, that, is your quest.

Some misfortunes and challenges may come to you at my hand, other trials you will have to seek for yourself. I have no doubt there are many lords, knights and commoners willing to stamp out your pride among others. Your humility and generosity is your way forward. You have overlooked and disregarded so many vassals that bow at your feet and toil away in your presence yet unnoticed and unacknowledged by you, myself included. Now you shall share their burden and lowliness, you shall learn to value their efforts and dedication, their friendship, struggles and their devotion to you and the crown" informed Nimueh firmly

"At all times, remember your oath, oh fallen knight of Camelot, the oath you have already broken many a times whenever you quietly watched the innocent be slaughtered and for which you now pay a hefty price, having lost your stand, worth, honor and armour, stripped of all but life itself, even your freedom is forfeit.

With or without sword, a knight is without fear in the face of all, friends and foes alike. He is brave and upright that all may respect and honor him. He safeguards the innocent and does no wrong. He is sworn to valor and courage. His humble and honest heart knows only virtue. His blade defends the helpless and his arms and might upholds the weak. His wrath undoes wicked deeds. His word speaks only the truth. His sword, life and limbs are used in service of his liege lord but righteousness and justice first and foremost, at all costs. Remember, knight, your word is your bond. Fullfil your oaths and accomplish all your promises, or make good on the ones you could not, undertake your quests as if they were but your last that in all things your name may be remembered by your courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self control and an indomitable spirit that will not yield even in the face of danger or death" reminded Nimueh as she once had taught Conrad in his younger years.

"Each successful deed, no matter how small, will in itself bring about a reward of its own too, for what you have done today, clean healthy water will be restored to your kingdom to quench the deadly drought and thirst suffered by all. The wells will be filled brimming once more, the fountains shall have abundance of water, springs and rivers will flow again that no man, plant or animal may perish from thirst any more" assured Nimueh being fair and even handed

"Rest now for a long journey awaits ahead of you, penance is no easy feat but a gruelling burden that must be undertaken to spare those who have no fault or part in your father's cruelty" muttered Nimueh vanishing

"Thank you... my lady..." sighed Merthyr wincing and closing his eyes, the dirtied wounds quickly became infected and a high fever set in, causing Merthyr to drift off asleep, shivering at the coldness and sweat but sound asleep all the same
Amber (played by Mathgeek124)

She took her hand and stood, smiling. She nodded and followed. "Thank you." She mumbled as they reached the crowds
Morgana remained still and expressionless. She was composed despite being horrified at the brutish and definitely excessive sentencing her brother had decided to inflict upon Merthyr. Still, as a high born lady she knew her duty and place and a show of emotion was indeed undue for a princess.

Once she had seen Merthyr dragged away, she made her way to her chambers.

"Amber... here, have this summoning delivered to Sir Mordred, I wish to speak and dine with the knight. This one is for my brother Tron, and this one for the lady Morgause..." explained Morgana following official channels rather than venturing into his rooms unannounced least it gave rise to gossip and questioned her honor or the knight's.

There were enough bad tongues in the realm as it was, thus, Morgana organized a dinner with lord Pentre, Sir Mordred, bringing as well Lady Morgause, maid Amber, maid Guinevere, maid Nimueh and the manservant Taff who would not doubt accompany Sir Mordred, Josh who was sir Pentre's squire, all reunited so they could talk about the king's welfare and of course Merthyr's fate too.
Amber (played by Mathgeek124)

She walked back into the castle, seeking all the people she had spoken of to tell them, and of course she came to the maids an manservant. "Lady Morgana has invited us to dine with her, Lady Morgause, Lord Pentre, and Sir Mordred. Do you accept?" She smiled at them.
Morgause (played by Raider-jack29)

Morgause noded in acceptance seeing as she had no other choice as of now. She then watched the shy maid exit her chsmbers with a very strange and seemingly depressed looking walk.

Though she paid no mind to that any longer as she set to work cleansing the poison from her poor brothers body. Though they never much agreed on anything, she did not wish death upon him.

It would be countless hours that she worked to drain the poison, and even more to get him to open his eyes. Though she became relieved when his heart began to beat once more, and his eyes opened. She prided herself on bringing him back from the edge of death without the use of magic. As he once more found his breath she helped him sit up upon the edge of his bed. Currently he was weak as the poison had drained his energy while his body fought it, though he was still alive.
Conrad's breathing felt heavy, he felt sweaty and drowsy under the effect of such poison.

"Morgause... " called over Conrad in broken speech given the gasps of breath needed

"I never thought I'd say ...." paused Conrad taking in more air "It's good to see you again" half mumbled Conrad in an exhausted effort, talking with strain

"Please... tell me... was my son guilty?" queried Conrad with ill concealed worry in his voice, the thought of loosing his only child a greater worry than his own poor health

Josh looked up inquisitive at the servant girl, taking the parchment to read it up again.

"Well, well, well, what we have here is most unusual indeed. Normally servants and squires are expected to wait on the nobles and knights whilst they eat, but, clearly this is a personal invitation to join at the meal so we better make sure to attend.

I know I am no prince or lord but... I am a squire and soon to become a knight." smiled Josh with a mild air of importance "Would you like me to escort you to the feast, madam?" proposed Josh looking at Amber for approval
Morgause (played by Raider-jack29)

"It warms my heart you find more concern for your son, than yourself. He has been cleared of the charges of your attempted murder. However he was found guilty of possessing items of enchantment And sorcery, he however only possessed these items so that he may document and destroy them. Though I must warn you, a priestess of the old world has cursed the land because of your law, and has led one of the castle staff astray. She uses one of my sons against me."
She spoke as she brought him some water.
"Because of the items found in his chambers, your son has been sentenced to servitude as a slave under the knight morded. This was issued under the command of lady Morgana's elder brother."
Amber (played by Mathgeek124)

She smiled and nodded. "That would be most pleasing. Thank you." She had not noticed her hood had fallen to reveal her black and blue hair along with her scar on her eyebrow. Her smile was warm and for once in her life her eyes held the same happiness as her smile.
"Nimueh... will I ever be free... from the witch..." sighed Conrad in defeat as sat back a little higher, leaning against the pillows, clearly disheartened to hear of this. The more propped position allowing for a better talk.

"My son, caught dabbling with enchanted items, how dreadful and tragic, Merthyr should have known better than to touch such cursed things. Though I should have feared and suspected as much, seeing that is through magic that he was begotten in the first place" sighed Conrad clearly disturbed at learning Merthyr had kept such forbidden items, regardless of the reasons

"Lord Tron of the Pentre dynasty is a long standing loyal knight, the lord knight of the kingdom, and a most trusted ally of Camelot. His father, was a my closest childhood friend, my best friend, if the only true friend I've ever had. At the time I was young and rash, I misjudged the danger we were both in when I sent him to die in an ambush, despite his warnings that not all was what it seemed, we marched forth and we were attacked and overpowered, he died there, in my arms, by an arrow. I was captured and barely managed to leave unscathed after a very hefty ransom.

He left behind two children, Tron and Morgana and I have done my earnest to be for the both of them, the father I took from them. I love and trust them as if they were my own children, I raised them and protected them with all I have to give. As high lord of the realm lord Tron Pentre is expected to rule and command on my behalf when I am undisposed and my son found unworthy, sadly not the first time either, not so say Tron is much older and thus wiser. I treat him as a cousin or a son though we are not blood related" sighed Conrad

"There fact that Tron has spared Merthyr's life despite all damning evidence shows great respect and deference towards our family, it is very much commendable. I can never thank him enough for such courtesy" accepted Conrad feeling somewhat relieved that his son, whilst a slave, was still alive.

"When you see him, let him know of my gratitude." asked Conrad tiredly having forced himself to keep focused and talking with great strain. At this point, the effort became too much for the worn and weary mature king and let out a deep breath, closing his eyes to rest and sleep some more, relaxed that the worse, Merthyr's betrayal and death, had been averted altogether

Josh nodded warmly at her acceptance "May I know your name?" asked Josh with an honest smile, quite smitten that she had accepted altogether

"I know I haven't got much to offer on a squire's meagre pay but I will get you a token of friendship" assured Josh
Amber (played by Mathgeek124)

"Amber. Amber Smith, daughter of Mary and Harry Smith, maid in te castle." She curtsied and smiled.
"I must rest... I grow weary" admitted Conrad closing his eyes restfully

"Well then, here, Amber Smith, the most charming maid of the castle, take my arm and let us walk to the lavish dinner. It would not do well if the nobles have to wait for us commoners after all" smiled Josh raising his elbow to offer her a space to hang onto if she pleased, able to hear Pentre already at the dinning hall with Morgana there already, as well as Nimueh who was calmly sitting by Morgana's side as they waited for Mordred and Morgause, Josh and Amber, Guinevere and Taff to join in as well
Amber (played by Mathgeek124)

She smiled and placed her hand in his arm. "Why thank you." She looked over at the exit and listened to hear them.
Morgause (played by Raider-jack29)

"I must leave now for a dinner with the others, for now you may rest and barrow my chambers."
Lady Morgause stated as she made her way to the door, though at the last second she turned.
"Magic is a difficult thing to destroy brother. That woman will never stop until your dead, and your son is convicted. These are dark times, and I fear your best strategy may be to use your enemies own wepon against them. Despite your personal beliefs on magic, the only way to stop a sorceress is with another practitioner of the craft."
She then quickly exited and made her way through the castle to the dining hall.
"Lady Morgause ... a pleasure and honor that you would join us" smiled Morgana raising up to greet the new arrival properly. She was certainly pleased to see Morgause there.

"Please, be seated and enjoy the meal" invited Morgana keeping Nimueh close by her side somewhat drawn to the woman's darkness, unsure why she liked the maid but happy to have the woman there

Lord Tron Pentre stood up, raising a goblet to toast the new arrival, not caring that his sister changed maids as often as she changed attire. Anything that would ensure her happiness was welcomed.

"Queen Morgause of the most honorable house of Orkney, it is a great honor that you kindly accepted to join us. I personally thank you for your company and attendance, your presence is indeed of the utmost importance to ensure our kingdoms remain allies and war is indeed averted" greeted Sir Pentre, briefly glancing at Amber and Josh for them to be seated too, towards the end of the table

"I trust you understand that the earlier events, whilst unpleasant, were necessary to ensure the kingdom's laws are maintained and compliance to them ensured throughout the realm" excused Pentre formally, aware she had taken Merthyr into her protection earlier even if in an informal manner. "The crown prince could not be excused and absolved simply on account of his birth..." trailed off Sir Pentre

"Please take your place among us and share our courtesies, food and drink to your liking" offered Pentre keen to please and expected to be a good host regardless of her different opinion and earlier disagreement.

Morgana took her cup, sipping some wine as well to show her approval of Morgause presence

"... meet Nimueh, she has been tasked henceforth to personally tend to the king so that you are no longer burdened doing so many demanding healing chores" explained Morgana relaying the decision Pentre had made already concerning the king's care and welfare.

"You are a most honored guest, you should rest and enjoy sightseeing our kingdom, Morgana told me you are a keen huntress and rider, you shall indeed take pleasure in our hunting grounds then. It would be most improper, in fact, unthinkable and against protocol to keep you labouring when we have talented healers of our own here already..." nodded Pentre in agreement.

"Her name is Nimueh and her rooms were thoroughly searched earlier by me personally. I assure you that nothing unbecoming was found in her quarters" explained Pentre to calm Morgause down

"I am honored to be appointed as the royal healer indeed. It shall be my greatest pleasure to tend to king Conrad as required and, Merthyr, when permitted" nodded Nimueh

Nimueh_as_Cara.jpg

"I have ample experience in all matters of illnesses and healing remedies" assured Nimueh with confidence in her voice
Amber (played by Mathgeek124)

She sat and listened to them, not speaking a word. She smiled an looked around.
