It means you have the "bleed" status effect. You'll continue to take 1d4 damage per attack for the next few rounds.
You are probably bleeding! No cure for that but more fighting.

I just got back. Did I miss some giant boss finale? I thought these things tended to ended with huge bosses that take a day or so to kill.
