Hey everyone, pleasure to join the community. I'm new to forum rp, so if anyone gets to RP with me, I hope you'll bear with me. That said, I was wondering if anyone had some advice for me? I feel I have character creation down pat, but I have no idea how to kick off a roleplay. Any advice would be a blessing!
Heya Frost!

First of all, welcome to RPR and happy to see another find this community.
Forum RP took me some time to adjust to from chatRP if you have ever done that. And is verrrry differnt from say Live RP such as in a Dungeons and Dragons Session.

My first advise is before you start with a new friend you have made here:

1. Get excited!

Between you and those you are writing with map out a bit of what y'all want to write about and match to each other's general preferred post length and style such as POV(Point of view). And brainstorm awesome plot development and character development ideas!

2. Communicate!

I find that the way to prevent a less than awesome roleplay is to communicate with the people you are writing to make sure the writing is going they way that makes it enjoyable for everyone! Also, if one of y'all will be away for a time or cannot post to your schedule, let the person know!

3. Start with an action!

I find that starting a post with an action such as in a post I just did (My character just stabbed a badguy and he fell to the ground) so it makes it interesting right off the bat and gives energy to the post. I find that works.

If you should need anything this post is useful even to those who have roleplayed in other methods for a long while!

Hey Mellute,
Thanks so much for the advice, as well as the link! I must admit, I've spent a huge amount of time playing DnD with friends, and I have more characters written up than I'll ever have use for, but seeing the layout for forum rp, I was completely lost. It really feels like a different ballpark in some ways.

Hello!

Welcome to RPR! I’m happy you found this wonderful site. If you’re ready to roleplay then I’d suggest going to “looking for RP” or “Find RP”. There you will find the exact roleplay that you please. If you need any more help I’ll be willing to help you out. :D

Welcome to RpR!

There are a few different ways to do a roleplay here.

1. One on one through private messages. You will see when you click on people's profiles that there's a link that says "Send Message," and that's how you send a private message (AKA a "PM")

So, one way to start a roleplay would be to go to the Looking for Roleplay thread, find an ad you like, and PM the person who wrote the ad saying which one you're answering and that you would like to do that one if they are still open.

2. Forum RPs. To join one of these you would usually go to the first post of the one you are interested in and it will usually have instructions on how to join it. Usually you will PM the person running the game and ask to join. :)

3. Group RPs - I usually do one-on-one PMs, so I know that way best, but this is also another thing that exists!

4. Here's a link to some guides that might help give more specifics!

Welcome frostwyrmm!

I agree... I think it is a different ballpark. I love tabletop and a have a ton of fun playing it. But I love forum rp too as it lets me tell more about the characters... their thoughts and feelings. And I find different scenes are fun to play out in the different mediums. Though it tends to be way slower than tabletop.

Are you looking for DnD-ish style play-by-post games? I've got a couple d20 based games on my profile page in case any of them spark your interest. (No pressure, of course!)

A ton of people don't even use the dice and just focus on collaborative story telling with a freeform approach. This site accommodates both play styles nicely. :)
Welcome!

Here's an Office gif since they are taking it off of Netflix :(

HI!!!! WELCOME!!!
Hello! And welcome to RPR! One of the most friendly and understanding websites I’ve ever seen! 🥰

Nice to see new people joining this lovely community! More people to chat. RP and just get to know! You might meet friends that live miles away from you and I think that’s pretty cool!

Been RPing for years and I would never change that! And this is one of the best of the best. :)

Some couple helpful pieces of information!

One, Characters. I recommend you put enough detail into things so every one who wants to RP with you is satisfied by the amount of information!

Two, rules. I recommend you make rules for yourself and partners. You don’t have to be rude about them but it’s a good idea to put your foot down and say what you will do and what you won’t do, or what you like and how you want your partner to treat you! This should be fun for both of ya!

Three, don’t be nervous to talk to people!! You may miss out on that RP you really wanted to do, or that person you wanted to chat with!! Don’t do that to yourself, everyone I’ve met is so kind and sweet that I felt dumb for being nervous!

And four, be kind. I know I praise this place like my god but there can be some nasty people on here... and when that happens, it ruins everyone’s fun. We all can’t see eye to eye but it doesn’t mean we can’t try now right? Be kind and treat people with respect, you never know what they may be going through.

Phew! I hope those little timbits of information help in anyway! I hope you feel welcome at RPR and.. have fun!

Welcome to RPR! I'm super glad you've joined us here!

I really recommend checking out the Looking For RP boards, and I definitely recommend hitting up the OOC Chat as a place to get to know some of your fellow roleplayers!

Thank you SO MUCH for coming to us and helping us make our community great!
Hey!

I'm not the greatest with advice but the best way to have fun with your partner is to communicate, it's very important so your both having fun!

And don't forget to have to rules!
Welcome buddy! :3

My best advice is to try asking around for available partners who would be interested. The forum has a lot of available Roleplays and roleplay requests you can check out. :3

Just make sure you follow the rules.

Anyway, have fun, and hope you enjoy your stay here. :3
