Just wondering, I recently picked up knitting and have completed a couple of projects, varying from a small pillow, to scarves (loom and needle knit) and my future projects will include nerdy plushies and complex patterned scarves (possibly nerdy scarves too).

I'm not an expert, I'm still learning a lot of stitches, but the resources online are so plentiful it's hard not to learn!

If anyone else does this as a hobby (or wants to learn how to, I can Skype with people to demonstrate!) let me know! :)
My grandmother has been teaching me! After my husband was in the accident, we spent about two months in the hospital, and I had a lotttttttttt of free time, so I've been working on knitting, she brought me a big Basket of yarn and Needles..I'm at a very basic level lol. I can make some mean pot holders, though...

Yaaaay, awesome!! :D Do you have any pictures of your work? What sort of stitches do you know, what sort of needles do you use?

You can PM me if you want to share this in private. :)
Let me see if I can dig them out! We just PCSed to a new base for his rehab so they're all stuffed in a box somewhere! I'll PM you in a second!
I have no idea how to knit (or crochet) but I love the little plushies that people make doing this! If people want to share pictures publicly, I'd love to see! <3

I'd LOVE to share my first plushie/pillow thing right now, but I can't until the person who I sent it to receives it. They're an RPR user and it's a surprise, so you'll have to wait. XD My next project is a scarf with knitted shapes sewn to it, and I should have some pictures of that soon! :)

I do share with you my box of yarn!! :D

It's missing a nice rich green color that I loaned to my friend, but other than that, I can make everythingggg!
Awesome!!! So many pretty colors :) I especially like that nice, bright pink ^_^
I crochet blankets pretty well in the basic stitch, and have successfully knitted several scarves and one ginormous hat. :D

Aww yes! Why did you choose crocheting over knitting, if you don't mind me asking? And do you have pictures to share? :D

Alright! So just before the weekend the person who I made the gift for received it, so I can post it in this thread now. :) There's a whole bunch of progress pictures, but I put them in the collapse tag to prevent lag and excessive loading time. So make sure to click on the collapse tag below the pictures if you want to see more.

It's a small heart pillow I knitted. It consists of two simple heart shapes, knitted in single knit stitch, each shape in a different color (my two favorites :) ). I stuffed them with a thin blanket stuffing and sewed them together with the teal colored thread for contrast.

This was my first time knitting a shape AND doing any stuffing or sewing a knitted work together, so I'm pretty darn proud of it. I had no help doing it other than scouring the internet for tutorials. :D

And here are progress pictures for those who are interested!!

The paper in the background has the written pattern for the heart shape, for those curious.

I also wanted to ask if there's anyone on RPR who wants to learn how to knit! I got quite a few requests on Facebook asking me to teach people, and while those people are real life friends, I have a HD webcam and can Skype with people to show them how to do it.

Knitting's pretty simple as far as technique goes once you get the hang of it, the challenge lies in different designs and pattens. I'm still a beginner myself, but I'm learning quickly and would love to help others get started. :) Youtube videos are awesome, but having someone to answer your questions is the best way to learn. (That's how I learned from my friend!)

If anyone's interested, let me know! I'd be MORE than happy to get you started!

I'm knitting a scarf for somebody special and I thought I'd share the preview here! It's going to be huge so that he can wrap his huge ego in it too. <.<

I used two different colored 3-4mm yarns for this on 7mm knitting needles (there's no equivalent in US size unfortunately, the US sizing system is different, but 10 1/2 or 11 works I suppose!) to make a thicker and more fun colored pattern. I used the stockinette stitch here, which means knit 1 row, purl 1 row, repeat. You get a smooth v-shape pattern on the right side and a bumpy ribbed pattern on the wrong side. It's my first time trying it out and I like it!

I will eventually switch the color to a light orange and probably switch up the pattern, but I haven't decided on what yet. Here are pictures. The colors look a little faded but that's my camera, there's a distinct lighter and darker yellow for each ball of yarn. :)

The right side. When this side faces me, I use the knit stitch to create these neat v-shapes.

The wrong side. When this side faces me, I use the purl stitch to create the ribbing effect.

This is how far I got in about a day. :) Having big needles and double-threading the yarn makes the work larger at a faster pace. The orange has been knitted in with a different pattern than the yellow tones, but you won't be able to appreciate it until it's longer.

Hey look, it's the different pattern for the orange section. ;)

I love knitting, but my utensils are back at home and I have not picked it up in nearly a year. I was just recently introduced to 'finger knitting' though, and it is a lot of fun. :)

Looks like you are making awesome stuff, Sanne! Way cool!

What can you do with finger knitting and how does it look? :)

And thank you!
Here's what my first attempt looked like;

I was bold and tried two colors my first time. You can do as many colors as you'd like, but the more colors you do, the harder it is. Here's some info on how to finger-knit;

It has really caught on at my campus, and we've been talking about making a bunch to put in boxes for Project Christmas Child. :)

As far as I've seen, it's generally used for bracelets, hair-tye things or headbands. :)

That's really neat!! Your work looks very nice!

This is basically loom knitting, but instead of using a loom you're using your fingers. XD I'm going to have to try this and make my own bracelet. :) Thanks for sharing!

I'm already 2/3rd through the orange yarn. Definitely going to need more!!!
