Hello, I live again, sort of?
I used to be pretty active on here, but at some point I think, I completely shyed away from the site. I got overwhelmed with my new job and wasn't able to manage my time or energy. I had a lot of moments where I would promise myself I would finish something for work, and then feel bad about not finishing it on time, so I'd feel like I didn't deserve to do any of the things I actually did like. A lot of personal stuff has happened as well, both in terms of life and in souring my experience with RP. There are still a lot of difficult personal things going on as well that I am trying to handle.
At some point I think I just completely stopped responding to RPs and it had been so long since my last reply I felt too guilty to return, and it was easier to just shut myself out completely. Which is of course not fair to anyone.
Very weirdly what got me sort of back into it was finding a community in fandoms (at the moment I'm very much into The Magnus Archives/Protocol and Malevolent podcasts, much more so the latter). I had never been in large fandom servers and I went in thinking I would just post the occasional fanart, only to be sort of adopted by the communities. Also started getting into Fallen London, which is just hilarious

One person even came into my DMs after I made a silly fan character to just suddenly ramble to me about theirs and their headcanons, which got me to slowly open up about my ideas and what they would do if they met. Then I got invited to a separate server, and sort of had baby steps into being re-introduced to RP (like having my character cameo for just the beginning of the RP as opposed to the entire adventure). I'd really forgotten how much I missed and loved coming up with ideas and character arcs (even if it means putting my characters through the wringer sometimes :'D)
I've also discovered other forms of RP I really enjoy; like illustration based ones! Artfight is sort of like this, which is why I enjoy it. The other was discovering some TTRPGs that had really fun character and story focused systems, like Yazeba's Bed and Breakfast, and The Hunted. I seem to do really well in one-shots and structured RP, where there is a DM (but that doesn't have too much focus on stats like DnD does).
I am sort of back here, but I think I know my limits at the moment; I don't think I can in good conscience join any private long form rps for a good while, because I am still sort of in recovery mode. Also I think maybe, fast paced rps like chat rps and the masquerade events were a lot more fun and easier for me to handle.
But I would like to hear what you guys have been up to. I missed this, and also RPRepository for the short time I was active on it held a very special place in my heart. It was strange to find people who wanted to learn about my characters and enjoyed my art, and the community is lovely. I might frequent the art topics more since I think that's where my strength lies, play forum games, and update/retire a few characters. I still really enjoy discussing what ifs, so if you have character ideas you want to throw at me or my characters you can go ahead! c:
I don't really expect forgiveness for my sudden and long disappearance, but I do hope for it. This was an awful and unfair way to handle things.
But I also I would like to encourage everyone to find stories that resonate with you emotionally and you want to create for unapologetically, and find a community that will support you for it, and their only expectation is that you enjoy your time. That seems to be what sort of breathed life back into me, as melodramatic as that sounds.
