He frowned, knowing that reaction only all too well. "You mentioned a promise, what did you promise?" He still hadn't seen her hand or the black marks, but he could tell she was faking the light-hearted attitude.

"I promised something to Ash a long time ago. Before the fire, but nothing is wrong and i plan on carrying out that promise soon." Red said dismissively then scooted back a little.
Keeping her hand behind her she leaned against the wall and looked at Arien. Her eyes gave away her nevousness about lying though.

Arien knew he was making her edgy, but he couldn't help it; she was acting suspicios. He raised an eyebrow, and changed his question. "How soon?"

"I dont know. But i need to very soon..otherwise im a goner.." she whispered the last part mainly to herself.
Red felt certain that Arien knew she was lying but she still didnt want him to worry about anything.

Ash smirked as she willed the black markings to continue. The black marks grow very slowly but when they reach Red's heart..she will be finished. Then Ash would have nothing to worry about and could continue making people's lives miserable.

Arien scrubbed at his face. He would need to shave soon if he didn't want to look like a neanderthal. "Is there a reason you can't or won't finish the promise now?"

He wanted to help her, but it was difficult knowing only a quarter of the story. He'd say half, but really only Red knew that much and she wasn't opening up anytime soon. "Give me something to work with, and I'll do whatever I can to help."

It was obvious to Red that Arien wasnt giving up anytime soon.
"Alright. I promised her i would kill her. I would grow stronger and i would kill her. Before she killed me," Red said in a disturbed tone.
That was the promise she ha made so very long ago. It seemed like it had been centuries ago but it hasnt.

He stared at her. "Weren't you best friends? What the hell happened?" Remembering himself too late, he turned and looked ready to storm back out into the main room.

Instead he looked back at her, confused and ...hurt? "Am I to guess, then, that that box and rose...were some sort of link to her for that purpose?"

Red winced at his tone and looked out the window. Now feeling hurt, she didnt want to talk about it anymore.
"Nevermind..." she whispered, tears brimming her eyes but she blinked them back.
In her book, crying was a sign of weakness, but right now she just didnt want Arien seeing her crying.

Furious at himself, Arien stormed back out into the main room. Bella looked up at him and flattened her ears. She knew this mood, and she went to hide in Red's bedroom.

Arien looked around for something and then sighed and slammed his hand against the wall. Dull pain awakened his senses, but he didn't want to think about it. Not about losing Red, not about the fact that she might die. Especially not about the fact that he liked her--more than liked.

"Why couldn't I have had the ability to heal?"

Red welcomed the calming presence of Bella. Then winced as she heard a thud and couldnt even guess what happened but it sounded like it hurt.
She wanted to run and hug Arien tightly and never let go, but she thought Arien was mad at her for making a promise like that. So she thought it best to stay in her room an let him cool off.

When Nex heard the thud he came back into the house, Neo trailing behid him. Neo went straight to the fire and layed down. Nex sat down close to Arien and looked up at him quizzically.

Arien growled and wanted to throw something--but he couldn't afford to break anything and he'd rather not put holes in Red's walls anyway. He glared down at the tiger and then sighed.

His anger dissipated as he threw his back to the wall and slid down it into a sitting position. "I'm useless," he said to the tiger. "The only thing I'm good against is a physical attack. I can't do anything like this. I can't help Red, I can't kill Ash, I don't even know what I can do to help."

He looked at the fire and saw a splinter of wood from the box that hadn't quite burned up yet. He sighed. "If women were more like men, they'd just hit each other a few times and then call it off. But no, they gotta play waiting games and psychological games and..." he trailed off, his eyes glossing over.

Nex purred reassuringly and rubbed softly against Arien's arm. Maybe all she needs is for you to be there. Maybe you should be there to comfort and protect her. Nex suggested to Arien.

Red scratched Bella softly and smiled a little sadly.
"Bella..your such a sweet girl. A good girl. Was Arien mad?" she murmured to Bella.

He snapped back to himself with a jolt and looked at the tiger. "Just...be...there?" Clearly the idea of just being present and not doing anything hadn't occurred to him before.

"Will that even work?" he asked, but he slowly stood up.

Bella pricked her ears up at Red and whined softly before jumping up onto the bed and curling up next to Red's side. She stuffed her head behind Red's back, sniffing for the arm that Red had hidden behind her.

"No Bella!" she said in surprise and quickly moved her arm under her cloak.
Then Red relaxed and scratched Bella. Sorry for snapping.. she thought to Bella.

Nex stood up and nudged for Arien to go spend time with Red.

Bella leaned into the scratching before pausing to sniff again at Red's arm. And then she looked over at the doorway.

Arien stood there, having only just arrived in time to see Red scratching Bella. "I'm not mad at you, Red. I'm just upset that I can't do anything for you. If...if you want to talk though..." By the gods he was bad at this. He scuffed his foot against the floor.

Red smiled and stopped scratching Bella for a minute.
"You want to come sit with me and Bella?" she asked in a nice tone.
Making sure to keep her arm outta sight, she motioned for Arien to sit close to her.

"Sure," Arien accepted and sat down next to her--careful of Bella's sprawled out form.

Bella pawed for Red's arm, hidden somewhere under the cloak as Arien searched for something to say, before recalling the tiger's words of wisdom. Just be there for her? Did that mean he wasn't supposed to say anything? What a drag--but he turned to catch sight of Bella's behavior.

"Bella, stop that." He said, leaning over to grab her foot which was still pawing at Red's arm.

Red smiled when Arien sat down next to her. Then quickly moved her arm but kept it in the cloak.
"Oh um she's fine. Bella's isnt causing any harm," she said a little nervously.

Nex chose to lay down next to Neo. Licking his brothers pelt, he reassured Neo that everything was fine.

Arien nodded and waited for Bella to settle down. "If you're sure..." he said. And then looked down at the mattress, unsure of what he should say next. "Umm,so," he glanced at her and then away. "Is there anything you want to talk about?"

Red suddenly felt like Arien should know that she could die soon.
"Arien. Ash had a poison that she could spread throughout someones body, just by them coming in contact with it. When we were young i called her the master of death. Ash called the poison Withering Willow. Its a poison that takes a while to get to your heart but as it makes its way to your heart, it weakens you. It makes you very sick in the late stages. I've seen it work on other people," Red told him quietly.
Red wasnt sure how he would react. But no matter what, he had to know. Just in case.
