Wow, hard to believe I'm here after all these years.
A bit about me as a roleplayer: I got started decades ago in the mid aughts as a pre-teen, primarily on the CouncilofElrond.com RP forums. I was a horrible writer, but certainly enthusiastic - apologies to anyone who might have suffered through a story with me. Throughout the years my participation in RP waxed and waned until I moved on completely. Then, about a decade ago, I rekindled that love of roleplay and returned to CoE, albeit briefly. Once again, life intervened and well, another decade flew by.
In the meantime, I've done a fair bit of writing for various reasons and it wasn't until an old friend from CoE emailed me a couple of years ago about archiving some of our old stories that I decided to start revisting this hobby. I'm a bit rusty, naturally, so bear with me.
I'm flexible on source material and settings, although my heart is with Lord of the Rings and general fantasy settings. I prefer big worlds with lots of lore (of course), complex characters, significant detail, and preferably long, thoughtful responses. Hoping to find something to get into soon! DM if you'd like!

Always happy to see someone back to writing after giving it a long thought! A story in the mind can never compare to the inspiration that can be given in its written form and to those that read it, but for that words must be written in the first place, of course. :]
There's many, and I mean MANY places to start and so many nice people to meet and delve into lore with, however if willing, the White Void is open to a start as I'd (personally) love to explain in-depth fantasy lore via storytelling rather than bios and direct speaking, of course, completely optional as I'm also getting used to more than a paragraph writing ouo"

I have visited the Council of Elrond before, and I may know who you are referring to who curates old stories.
I am in the midst of writing a fanfiction about Eldarion and his siblings set in the 4th age of Middle-earth. There was a nice group here that had a lot of Middle-earth lore in it, but sadly it disappeared when its founder left this site.
