No hesitation--the family gets first priority. The old man has had a long and full life, the child is a regrettable loss, but the family is a whole one, with their lives still ahead of them, and preserving them together is the highest priority for the future good of the city.

Fight, no hesitation. If his family died not only would he lose his heart, metaphorically speaking, it would endanger the empire and potentially throw it into chaos, meaning a lot more people would be in danger of dying.

Uh... In most cases, they would... die. Struggle to try to escape, try to force themselves out or kill the thing from the inside, but in all likelihood, die without help from the outside. Except for one.
Emory Skye, my resident immortal, would sit in the toxins while trying to contemplate how to get out. But with escape near impossible and assuming that he wasn't saved or found a way out somehow, his body would melt into the toxins like a mannequin in a tub of acid until there was nothing until a rock-like core that spewed black mist was sitting in the bottom of the toxins until either the plant died, stopped producing toxins for a while, or dropped it allowing him to slowly reform by consuming whatever organic matter came in contact with the mist. Would probably take a few weeks maybe months, but he'd be back, in his birthday suit and learning that particular kind of plant should not be used as a seat.

He would learn from his mistake, if it was unintentional, and seek to pay what restitution they would allow, if they belonged to his empire. If they were subjects of an enemy empire, he would do nothing--anything that hurts the enemy strengthens the Arcanians.

Adventure, easy--as a prince he doesn't get to go out much. He would want to see as much as he can before settling down.
